With Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, small businesses in Spartanburg are busy planning for holiday sales and events. Many small businesses have seen their sales drop since the start of the pandemic. They hope, however, that the holiday season will help boost their business.
Kathy Silverman, owner of Hub City Scoops and The Local Hiker on East Main Street, has noticed a 30% drop in sales in 2020. Although her businesses are back to their previous levels in 2021, Silverman hopes to see greater growth.
âThe local hiker did very well at the Sunday market in November and I am also optimistic about the holiday season,â said Silverman.
Small business Saturday 2020: Small Business Saturday means more than ever to Spartanburg businesses after a tough year
To combat the slowdown in in-person sales, some local businesses have established online stores offering delivery and pickup services.
Pink on Main, a clothing store on West Main Street, has had success in its online store. They are looking forward to the holiday season which will bring more customers downtown to shop.
In addition to clothing and equipment stores, The Spice and Tea Exchange on West Main Street also hopes the holiday season attracts more shoppers during the fall and winter.
âWe had more customers during the summer and early fall because the weather was nice and people were out,â said Lily Kincaid, Area Manager Spice and Tea Exchange. “But spices and tea make great holiday gifts, so I expect a good sale during the holiday seasons.”
