Lancaster (CBSDFW.COM) – Curtis Floyd has worked in the commercial construction industry for 30 years.
âThat’s why we were very selective as to who we were going to go,â said Floyd.
Floyd walks with a cane after a bad fall at work.
âThis is what I use to shower with because I can’t stand up,â Floyd said, gesturing to a chair in his tub.
The Floyd’s needed a contractor to install a standing shower in their bathroom and install a tub in the second bathroom in their Lancaster home.
They turned to the Good Contractors List, a website that reviews contractors and guarantees every job up to $ 10,000.
âBecause I had never seen anyone else do that,â Floyd said of the warranty.
Floyd hired Russel Jones of Total Home Service and Solutions off the list.
âI asked him a lot of construction questions and he answered them,â Floyd said.
The Floyd’s paid him nearly $ 4,000 for materials, but their contractor never returned.
âThat money is gone. That money we saved is gone, down the tubes, âsaid Floyd.
When Jones didn’t want to call them back, the Floyds called the Good Entrepreneur List.
âI wanted to jump in and investigate because we clearly had a problem,â said Charlott Barry of the Good Contractors List.

Barry found nine families who hired Jones and were now in the thousands or stuck with half-finished projects.
John Hill started the list of good entrepreneurs.
âHe had a guy posing as the owner of the business. We got screwed. It broke our hearts, âHill said.
The website guarantees every job, so the company will reimburse families or complete the job half-done.
âWe came out of $ 18,000 to $ 19,000,â Barry said.
Russel Jones is listed as the owner of two companies: Total Home Services and Jonesco Construction.
The two appear to be fully in business.
CBS11 went to the address listed for their business, but their employee said he was not there.
Court records show Jones was arrested for theft of property over $ 1,500 with two previous theft convictions – something the Good Business List would have picked up if he had used his real name.
âYou are doing it right. Why don’t you just say, okay, we’re taking care of this, nobody even has to know that this happened, âasked Cristin Severance of CBS11.
âHe’s a guy who always does business. We have to take whatever steps we can to make sure it doesn’t benefit people, âHill said.
CBS11 is still awaiting a recall from Jones.
