The North Coast 500 is not only intended as a raffle for gas lovers.
The 516-mile circular route, which covers some of the Highlands’ most scenic spots, is also top of wishlists for more eco-friendly drivers.
A survey by commercial electrical services contractor Point Electrical named the NC500 its best UK driving route for electric vehicle (EV) owners and drivers, based on overall popularity, the station report EV charging / mile and the number of hotels with EV charging stations on the course.
First place in Point Electrical’s Top 10 UK Road Routes list went to the NC500, which already enjoys considerable international acclaim with publications such as Condé Nast Traveler and Now Travel Magazine hailing it as one of the best road routes in the world.
The Brecon Beacons, Cotswolds, Norfolk Coast and Devon in Cornwall held the remaining top five.
The North Coast 500 is described by Point Electrical as the best way to cross the Scottish Highlands.
“Hugging against the coastline of the east, north and west of Scotland, you will marvel at stunning scenery and countryside unlike anything else in the British Isles, with many towns and villages along the way to make sure you can stock up on supplies Prepare for plenty of walks as well, as you’ll want to make the most of this amazing opportunity, ”he says.
The route, which starts and ends in Inverness, offers more than thrilling scenery for EV drivers.
The study also found that the NC500 was well supported by charging stations, despite its rural location, averaging 18.4 miles per EV charging station.
While it’s elevated off the Norfolk coast, where EV drivers are only 3.3 miles from the nearest charger, it compares well to two other Point Electrical top 10 routes, Snowdonia and North York Moors, where there are no charging points.
Joshua Gardner of Point Electrical said, “There is nothing like the freedom of a long open road. It was so unfortunate that we needed to burn gasoline to see the scenic UK landscape.
Fortunately, electric vehicles have become more and more mainstream, which means lists like these will help inspire more people to take road trips with electric vehicles. “
